Therapist Bio

My name is Brent Conrad and I am a Clinical Psychologist (Candidate Register) currently working at Saint Mary's University and also in private practice in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Education

I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Dalhousie University, my Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology at Simon Fraser University, and my pre-doctoral internship at The University of Manitoba. I am currently nearing the completion of my Ph.D., also at Simon Fraser University.

Therapy Orientation

I believe that developing a sense of hope and regaining a feeling of control are two of the most important factors in personal growth and satisfaction.

My therapeutic orientation varies according to the presenting problem and the style that fits best for the client. For example, short-term work would likely involve Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with a Solution-Focused approach. Clients would be assisted in identifying clear attainable goals for personal change and empirically validated methods would be used to help achieve these goals. Longer term therapy may involve more insight-based work with a Client-Centered approach.

Philosophy for Therapy

I understand that initiating therapy can be a difficult decision. Therefore, it is very important to me that clients experience therapy as a warm, non-judgmental, respectful, and supportive environment which builds on the personal strengths they already possess.

I believe that therapy can only be effective when both the psychologist and the client trust one another and are working as a team toward mutually agreed upon goals.
